VERSE:
…Saul had expelled the mediums and spiritists from the land…
… He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”
— 1 Samuel 28:3-7
THOUGHT:
In this passage, Saul performs an outward act of righteousness by driving out all witchcraft from the land. However, just 3 verses later, Saul, in desperation, searches for a medium to find answers. Though he removed witchcraft from the land, he cherished it in his heart. It doesn’t matter how far you flee from the things you use to sin if your heart is unchanged.
APPLICATION:
Focus on cleansing your heart rather than cleansing your actions. Focus on your motives rather than the outcome. When the heart changes, your actions will follow.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, cleanse my heart and make it look like Christ’s. Let the outward actions of righteousness be a byproduct of the inward transformation of my heart. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
