VERSE:
Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.

THOUGHT:
Many people, when they hear the word “godless” think of heinous sins like rape and murder; however godless simply means “without God”. How is a majority of your free time spent? What do a majority of your conversations sound like? Are they consumed with God, or centered on God? If not, it is considered godless. Our sinful nature loves to pull our attention and our affections away from God to things of this world, which in turn make us more ungodly.

APPLICATION:
Set your affections towards God. Try to avoid pointless activities and conversations, especially if they are blatantly sinful. Ask yourself, “Would Jesus be having this conversation, or doing this activity?”

PRAYER:
Holy Father, I thank you for your mercy. I confess that many times I get caught up in pointless activities and conversations. I ask you to change me so that I can recognize godless chatter the moment it comes up and give me the strength to avoid it. Continue to mold me into the likeness of your son. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
