VERSE:
You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
— Hebrews 10:34
THOUGHT:
How would you feel if you had your house, and everything in it confiscated? Would you joyfully accept it? I probably wouldn’t either. Why is that? What’s the difference between us and the early Church to whom this letter was written? The difference is, they weren’t consumed in their materialistic culture like we are. They knew what they had in Christ.
APPLICATION:
Take time to think about how you would feel if everything you had was taken away from you because you believed in Jesus. Pray that God would give you more of an understanding of the better and lasting possessions that we have in Him, which would cultivate contentment in Him, rather than all of our material possessions. Go against the grain of our culture which tells you that more (stuff) is better.
PRAYER:
Father, I pray that you give me a fuller understanding of the better and lasting possessions that I have in you. Cultivate within me a contentment with you, rather than a desire and love for possessions. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
