Confessing the Name of Christ

Spread the love

VERSE:
Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
— 2 Timothy 2:19

THOUGHT:
This verse reminds me of another verse when it says “the Lord knows those who are His”. It makes me think of those who aren’t His, and He will say to them “turn from me for I never knew you” (Matthew 7:23). The scary part is that the people Jesus tells to turn away from Him, think that they are saved; possibly because of some false confession that did not lead to genuine repentance. Today’s verse plainly teaches that TRUE love for God means TRUE hatred for sin.

APPLICATION:
Understand that if you are going to confess the name of our Lord it means to turn away from sin. Don’t offer people a sloppy grace gospel which teaches salvation apart from repentance. It is not faith + works, just true faith.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for dying a horrific death to take the cup of wrath that had my name on it. I thank you for freeing me from the bondage of sin so that I can live a holy life by your power which is in me through Christ Jesus. I pray that I can continue to grow in holiness, and whenever sin may be found in me that you would help me to flee from it. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
