VERSE:
Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in His commands.
— Psalm 112:1
THOUGHT:
I love how the verse doesn’t simply say “blessed is the man… who OBEYS His commands”, but rather “blessed is the man… who finds great delight in His commands”.
I love how the verse doesn’t simply say “blessed is the man… who OBEYS His commands”, but rather “blessed is the man… who finds great delight in His commands”.
God isn’t after our duty so much as He is after our affections. It would not bring God glory to say “I obey God out of dry-dead obligation, even though I’d rather not”. However, on the flip side, how glorious does God look in His people when we say “I obey God because I find great delight in doing so”?
APPLICATION:
Obey God, but don’t let your obedience be reduced to a checklist of things you can and can’t do. Transform your mind so that obedience would be motivated by finding blessings and increased joy. Obey God with a smile, not like you just got beat down with a bible.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that your commands are not burdensome. I thank you that you are not after my duty, but you are after my heart. I am thankful that I can find increased blessing and joy in obeying you. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
