Faith without knowledge is weak
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
— Colossians 1:9
The Apostle Paul tells the Colossian church in verses 3-5 of this chapter how thankful he is that they were so full of faith and love; and he starts verse 9 by saying “for this reason we have not stopped asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will.” He understood that someone with faith and love apart from knowledge would be weak and open to deception. The Colossian church started out faithful and strong, but their lack of knowledge left the door open for false teachings and heresies to slip in; which was a motivating factor leading Paul to write this letter.
It is good to be enthusiastic and zealous for the things of God, but not at the expense of knowledge of His word. Be grounded in knowledge of God’s will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Heavenly Father, help my faith be established and grounded in knowledge through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
