VERSE:
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him.
— Psalm 62:1
THOUGHT:
rest –noun: refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor.
There are really only two religions in the world. There is the religion wherein salvation depends on man’s effort to work his way up to God; then there is Christianity, wherein salvation depends on God’s effort of coming down to man. Jesus Christ is the only one who can bridge the gap between fallen, sinful men and a holy and righteous God. None of our good works can cancel out our sins against God, or merit us salvation. Our salvation comes from Him alone. This truth should bring rest to our souls.
APPLICATION:
Don’t think for one second that your works can merit God’s grace. Put your works in their rightful place. Understand that you are not saved because you live holy, but you are to live holy because you are saved. Find rest in God.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the unmerited grace you have given me. My soul finds reset in you alone, because my salvation depends on you. Help me to always put my good works in their rightful place – doing them with gratitude for what you have done. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
