Give me daily bread

Spread the love

VERSE:
Give us today our daily bread
— Matthew 6:11

THOUGHT:
it is a wonder as to why Jesus didn’t tell us to pray “give us today enough food to last me a week”. God wants, and expects us to depend on Him daily. Abundance is never the sure sign of God’s blessing, just as much as poverty is never the sure sign of God’s abandonment. For many people, prosperity is the greatest stumbling block and hindrance to trusting and being totally reliant on God. Jesus, in this passage, is quoting from Proverbs 30:8-9 which tells us that though poverty can drive a man to dishonor God, riches can cause him to forget God.

APPLICATION:
Don’t mistake financial wealth for godliness, or poverty as a sign of God’s neglect. Rather, be content in every situation, thank God for what you have, and depend on Him daily for your needs.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father I thank you for all that I have. I acknowledge my contentment with your many blessings, and I affirm my total reliance on you for my every day needs. Help me to cultivate and maintain a deeper reliance on you in every situation. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
