Glory In Christ In Your Service

Spread the love

VERSE:
Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done.
— Romans 15:17-18

THOUGHT:
One might think that the Apostle Paul held the right to boast about his service to God. However, he knew to quickly redirect any praise that may have come his way towards Christ. Not only was Paul exhibiting humility, but he also understood a key truth of the Christian life: it is impossible to serve God in your own strength. When Paul said “I will not venture to speak anything except what Christ has accomplished through me…” he was basically saying “anything I have done in my own power isn’t even worth talking about”. Any deed done worthy of being called service to God can only be accomplished by Christ working through a humble and willing servant.

APPLICATION:
Do not let the enemy deceive you by making you think that you can somehow serve God in your own power. Anyone who has relied on their strength to serve God has failed miserably. Run to Christ with a humble heart and ask Him to create in you deeds worthy of being called service to God.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I will not mention anything other than what Christ has accomplished through me for you. Forgive me for the times that I have been proud of my service to you as if I were the one who deserves praise. Work through me for your purposes, and create in me a humble heart that redirects all praise to you. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
