Love God, and Don’t Worry

Spread the love

VERSE:
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
— Matthew 6:24-25

THOUGHT:
The word “therefore” is a conjunction connecting 2 sentences to the same thought. When Jesus said “therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…” it is in connection with the previous statement “you cannot serve both God and money”. Worrying about your finances reveals your love of money and hatred towards God. It shows your devotion to wealth (or the pursuit of wealth) and your scorn towards the Lord. Those are hard words to hear for many of us, but they are words directly out of the mouth of Jesus.

APPLICATION:
Don’t worry about your finances. Instead, worry about your devotion to God. Trust that God will provide all of your needs according to His riches in Jesus, as you seek FIRST His kingdom.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, rather than worrying about my life or my finances, I instead choose to commit my entire life to you. I thank you that as I serve and devote myself to you, I can have the freedom to not worry about what I will eat or drink; or about my body, what I will wear. I have complete freedom, in Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
