VERSE:
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
— James 4:4

THOUGHT:
One definition of the word “friend” is: a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. What are your affections set towards? What brings you the most joy in life? What are your thoughts mostly captivated by? If the answers to these questions include anything other than God, you are by default an enemy of God according to James. Leonard Ravenhill said “entertainment is the devil’s form of joy”.

APPLICATION:
Set aside your temporal causes. Don’t look to this world for friendship, satisfaction or joy. Set your affections towards God. Understand that in your natural self, this is impossible; and rely on the power and working of the Holy Spirit to accomplish this end.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I pray that you give me a mindset that is focused on you. I pray that the desire for the things of this world would fade away, and be replaced for a desire and hunger for you.
