The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
— 1Peter 4:7
Have you ever had a time where you wanted to pray, and when you started to speak nothing came out? For some reason you couldn’t think of anything to pray about, but you remembered that you have to balance your checkbook, clean your car, go to the store, pay that bill, or any number of irrelevant things. Or it could be that you were very tired, or hungry, or just not in the mood to pray. 1 Peter 4:7 says that the qualifier to prayer is a clear mind and self-control.
Come to God in prayer, but first clear your mind of everything that would take your attention away from Him. Put your body and your mind under the control of your Spirit. Enjoy your time with God.
Heavenly Father, help me to clear my mind of everything that would get my attention off of you. Help me to subject my mind and my body to the control of the spirit, so that I can pray. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
