Not Faith in Faith

VERSE:
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…
—Hebrews 12:2 (Part 1)

THOUGHT:
Faith is what enables us to please God (Heb. 11:6). Faith is what enables us to receive the promises of God (Heb. 11:11). Many times when Jesus healed people in the bible, He said “your faith has made you whole”; but who is the one who gave them the faith to be whole? According to today’s verse, Jesus is the author of our faith. Faith is not something that we can conjure up on our own, but rather our faith comes from Jesus, and is strengthened by Jesus. He is the originator of our faith, and the one who makes it perfect. This takes away the option for us to take pride in our great faith, because it is God himself who enables us to please Him and to receive from Him.

APPLICATION:
Don’t take pride in your faith, but be thankful to God for the measure of faith that He has given you faith. Allow Him to accomplish His purpose of strengthening and perfecting your faith by reading His word (which is the means by which faith comes) and obeying what it says.

PRAYER:
Father, I thank you for being the author, and the perfecter of my faith. I thank you that you have enabled a sinful human, such as who I was, to please you, and receive blessings from you. I pray that you continue to perfect my faith, so that I can please you more. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
