VERSE:
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
— Colossians 2:20-23
THOUGHT:
Being a Christian was never meant to be marked by the things we don’t do. Following a checklist of do’s and don’ts can make someone appear as if they are moral; however a checklist cannot change the human heart. A man can be a faithful husband on the outside, yet lust after every woman he sees. Jesus Christ is the only remedy in restraining sensual indulgences.
APPLICATION:
Rather than focusing on the outward appearance of morality, allow Jesus to cleanse you from the inside out. Focus on growing closer to the person of Christ through prayer and meditation on the bible. Make obedience an act of love, not an act of duty.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for freeing me from the bondage of sin, and giving me the power to overcome temptations. Help me live a holy life out of love for you, rather than duty to the law. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
