VERSE:
Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.
Psalm 4:5
THOUGHT:
When we are told to offer right sacrifices, it automatically infers that we have the potential of offering wrong sacrifices. One definition of sacrifice is: the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim. In other words, some people are surrendering or destroying things that are valuable to them for God, yet it is all done in vain. Psalm 51:17 tells us that the sacrifice of God is a broken and contrite heart. Some things are good to be surrendered or destroyed for God’s sake; but they are offered out of a wrong heart?
APPLICATION:
Think of those things that God is asking you to surrender or destroy. Trust that He is asking you to sacrifice those things for a good reason. Reflect on why He would ask you to sacrifice them, and then do it out of a right heart.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, show me areas in my life that need to be surrendered to you or destroyed. I trust in your reasoning to ask me to sacrifice these things, and I ask that you give me a right heart in doing so. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
