Pride Comes Before the Fall

Spread the love

VERSE:
But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
— 2 Chronicles 2:19

THOUGHT:
Pride comes before the fall. Uzziah started off in his calling very strong, doing what was right in the eyes of the lord. When God blessed him with success, Uzziah was carried off by the temptation to believe that it was his own great power that led to his blessing. His pride led him to take lightly the ministry of God’s priests, who at that time were the only ones who were permitted by God to burn incense on the altar. He thought because of all of his power, he was excluded from God’s set order. He forgot that it was God himself who blessed him with power.

APPLICATION:
Be very careful when you are blessed. With great blessing, comes great temptation to think that you are the source and reason for your blessing. Understand that every blessing you have is undeservingly given to you from the hand of a gracious God, and is meant to turn around and bring glory and praise to Him.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for every good thing I have. I acknowledge that none of it is given to me by my own merit, but by your gracious hand. I pray for a humble heart to use my blessings towards your praise and your glory, in Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
