VERSE:
I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. Therefore, all who are mature should think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this to you also. (HCSB)
Philippians 3:14-15
THOUGHT:
As Christians, our lives should be marked by the pursuit of our heavenly calling; not the pursuit of the things that this world has to offer. We are pressing on towards eternity. A sign of maturity is that you are pursuing God’s heavenly calling. Consequently, a sign of immaturity is that you are caught up in the here-and-now of everyday life.
APPLICATION:
Set aside your temporal causes for the sake of eternal ones. Don’t let your surroundings pull your focus off of your heavenly calling. Seek God through His word and through prayer so that your mind would be renewed towards thinking about your heavenly call in Christ Jesus. Throughout the day, ask yourself how you could use your time in a way that honors God.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, help me stay focused on the real reason for my existence. Help me not get distracted by the things of this world. Give me the strength to pursue as my goal the prize promised by your heavenly call in Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
