VERSE:
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
— Ephesians 5:15-16
THOUGHT:
Time on Earth as we know it is running out, and we have work to do. How carefully do you live your life in light of this fact? Would you say that you made the most out of every opportunity doing things of eternal value today? Yesterday? The King James says “redeeming the time for the days are evil”. What would you say the biggest time waster in your life is right now? To put it more personally – compare how many scriptures you read to how many pointless Facebook posts you made today. Compare the amount of time in you spent in prayer to the amount of time spent watching TV this week.
APPLICATION:
Ask yourself the following questions, and write out the answers:
1. What is the number one thing God has called me to do right now?
2. Have I been faithful in doing it?
3. How can I be more faithful in pursuing it?
Once you write down the answers, commit them to God and ask for forgiveness if you have taken away from God’s purposes in order to pursue pointless time wasting activities.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I confess that I have not made the most out of every opportunity in pursuing your purposes. Forgive me for wasting the gift of life you have given me on things that mean absolutely nothing in an eternal sense. Give me grace to make the most out of every opportunity because the days are evil. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
