VERSE:
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” This is what the Lord Almighty says: “give careful thought to your ways.”
— Haggai 1:6-7
THOUGHT:
Isn’t this the picture of America? When do we ever have enough? We have food, but want to gorge. We have enough clothes, but we still HAVE to buy that $80 purse or pair of shoes. We earn 50-100 times more than majority of the world (51% of the world lives off of $2 per day), yet many of us would say “I’m broke”. God warns us to give careful thought to our ways. Our culture tells us that more is better; don’t believe it. Our society teaches us that you can never have enough; know better.
APPLICATION:
Give careful thought to your ways, and ask yourself the following questions:
How much of what I spend my money on is excessive or unnecessary?
How much of what I spend my money on will count for eternity?
Prioritize how you use the means which God has given you, and use them to glorify King Jesus.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, forgive me for being wasteful and excessive at times when using the resources you have blessed me with. Help me to give careful thought to my ways, and put my priorities in perspective. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
