Saved to Serve

Spread the love

VERSE:
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.
— 2 Timothy 4:1-2

THOUGHT:
Once we are saved, we are saved to serve! This verse gives us the “why, what, when and how” to serve as Christians.

APPLICATION:
Why follow this charge?
– Christ will judge the living and the dead, and we are expecting the appearing of His Kingdom. We have an eternity to face in heaven, and we want to see as many people there as possible.

What is the charge?
– PREACH! This means correcting those who are wrong, rebuking those who know they are wrong, and encouraging those who need encouraging.

When should we do this?
– We are to do this in season and out of season (when you are ready, and when you are not ready). Any other time would be inappropriate.

How should we do this?
– With great patience and careful instruction. Patience is cultivated by God, and applied by us. All of our instructions are found in the Word of God.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you that you have given me everything in need in this life to serve you and glorify your Name. I pray that by your grace, you help me serve you in all of the above areas every day. I pray that I could glorify you in thought, word and deed all the days of my life, and that you would give me the boldness to preach your gospel in season and out of season. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
