VERSE:
“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.”
— 1 Chronicles 28:9
THOUGHT:
God searches the motives BEHIND our thoughts. This means that someone can do good works and think that they are doing them for the right reasons, but the motives are really detestable in the eyes of God; whether they are selfish motives, or just plain malicious. Only God truly knows what our hearts conceal. The only way to know that our motives are pure is when we first and foremost seek God. The above exhortation was from David telling his son Solomon to seek God, and he gives 3 steps of practical application in which this is done.
APPLICATION:
1. Acknowledge God – Think of God throughout the day. Talk about God in your conversations. Pray to God in your alone time. Make this a daily habit.
2. Serve Him Wholeheartedly – You are saved to serve, so do something for the kingdom. Put His priorities above your own, and use your gifts to glorify Him. You are good at doing something; so do it for Him. Ask your church what help they are in need of (I guaranty they can think of something).
3. Serve Him Willingly – Don’t do anything grudgingly, but with passion and excitement. If you don’t desire to do anything for God, pray that He would birth that desire inside of you, then step out in faith and do it.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, search my heart and remove any impure motive from me. Help me to seek you by acknowledging you throughout the day and willingly serving you with my whole heart. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
