VERSE:
The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention.
— 2 Chronicles 33:10
THOUGHT:
“The Lord spoke… but they paid no attention”… I wonder how many church buildings can hang that phrase above their door. How many Christians? God forbid that to be true of us. Manasseh suffered greatly because of his decisions; however, all of his suffering could have been avoided if he took heed to God’s voice. Unfortunately, many of us fall into Manasseh’s pit. We see the pleasures of the here-and-now, and they enthrall us to where the voice of God can’t be heard behind the noise of our flesh.
Your flesh only allows you to see the rewards, while God is trying to show you the consequences. The flesh only shows you the bait, while God is trying to reveal to you the hook. In the midst of everything we do, God is speaking… but we need to pay attention.
APPLICATION:
Develop sensitivity to the voice of God in the midst of everyday life. Saturate yourself with the word of God and obey what He tells you. It starts with responding positively to the conviction of sin. Then it moves to responding to the small still voice of the Holy Spirit. Eventually, the small still voice of the Lord will become clearer.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for always being willing to speak to me; help me to pay attention. I don’t want to miss out on your voice. Help me develop sensitivity to your leading. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
