The True Meaning of Christmas

Spread the love

VERSE:
On coming to the house, they [the Magi from the east] saw the child [Jesus] with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
— Matthew 2:11

THOUGHT:
For many, Christmas is the busiest, most hectic time of the year. It’s a time of planning parties, buying gifts, decorating trees, and stuffing stockings; but is this the true meaning of Christmas? For most in our culture, the true meaning of Christmas is lost. The word “Christmas” is a compound of 2 words: “Christ” and “mass”, meaning “celebration of the anointed one”. This is the time of year where we are to do as the Magi did in Matthew 2:11 and worship Jesus for who He is, and give Him our very best because He is worthy.

APPLICATION:
Don’t let the true meaning of Christmas be lost in the consumerism this year. Take time to really reflect on the reason for the season, and worship Jesus. Give Him your best, and honor His name this year.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for leaving your glory to come to earth. I thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I choose to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas this year by worshiping you and giving you my best. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
