VERSE:
After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”
—1 Chronicles 17:1
THOUGHT:
When is the last time we really put God’s kingdom before our own? Here David is, after his kingdom is established and he was settled in his palace while the Ark of the Covenant was sitting in a rugged tent. After all of his priorities were taken care of, David finally had time to think about doing something for God. Isn’t this like many of us? “I have a house payment to make, my car needs repair, my kids need clothes, etc…” all the while people are dying around us without Christ, the poor are suffering without food, and our nation is following after empty idols and vain philosophies. In David’s case, the Ark of the Covenant was neglected by God’s people while David’s palace was being established. In our case, the Great Commission is neglected by God’s people, while our kingdom is being established.
APPLICATION:
WAKE UP CHURCH! Realize that our nation is in a state of moral decline, and that God’s kingdom is at a standstill in America because of our inaction. Set aside your priorities for a moment and do not neglect the work of the Lord.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, give me a mindset that puts your priorities above my own. I confess that I have allowed things in my life to become idols, pulling my attention away from doing the work of the kingdom. I renounce them, and pray for your kingdom to advance in power, and that nothing would take my mind off of the work that you have called me to. In Jesus’ Name I pray, AMEN!
